Food Packaging Events

A FULL SUMMER food packaging events bring together volunteers prepared to donate time and money to package meals for the hungry and food insecure in our local area. These are extraordinary events of giving and caring where neighbors, congregations, memberships, work groups, and communities — anyone of any age or background can participate and extend love to those in need. To date, these food events have resulted in 366,000 meals assembled and donated as well as sponsorship of local school food pantries.

2021 Virtual Event

Despite the pandemic and our need to host a virtual event, onations to A FULL SUMMER continued to come in and thanks to you, we raised $39,267.70! As a result, we are sponsoring 8 pantries for 2 years! Here’s the entire list of A FULL SUMMER pantries for 2022-22:

  • Pineview Elementary School
  • Oak Ridge Elementary School
  • Chaires Elementary School
  • W.T. Moore Elementary School
  • Springwood Elementary School
  • Sabal Palm Elementary School
  • Fairview Middle School
  • Rickards High School

Each pantry costs $4000 to sponsor for 2 years. That’s a total cost of $32,000. And using the remaining $7,267.70, each of the 8 schools we sponsor were able to choose a refrigerator or freezer for their pantry. Godby High School already had a pantry sponsorship, but because we are so grateful to them for allowing us to assemble meals there, we purchased a freezer for Godby as well. Having a freezer or refrigerator will allow our children to receive chicken, pork, and beef as well frozen vegetables and fruit or fresh produce.

2020 Virtual Event

Another FULL SUMMER is in the history books! Although under normal circumstances, we'd have held our meal assembly event on June 6, the COVID-19 prevented us from being physically together. But it DID NOT prevent us from DOING something to help our food insecure children and their families.  Thanks to your generosity, we donated $23,493.50 to Second Harvest of the Big Bend and sponsored six food pantries at local schools. It wasn't the kind of meal assembly we all envisioned when 2020 began. As a matter of fact, 2020 wasn't been what we all expected when it first started. But, we raised more funds than ever before at a time when it was needed more than ever before. THANK YOU! A FULL SUMMER volunteers are changing the world, one child at a time!!

2019 Event

Our most successful packaging event to date with 65,220 meals assembled in less than two hours! Nearly 300 amazing volunteers made it possible. In addition to the food packaging event, a canned food drive collected a whopping 8,138 pounds of food and $2,500 was donated to Second Harvest of the Big Bend.

2018 Event

Our 6th A FULL SUMMER was a BIG success! Thank you so much to all who supported this wonderful event. We wanted to share the 2018 A FULL SUMMER results. Our first-ever canned food drive collected a total of 3,152 pounds of food. That's the equivalent of 2,627 meals! Add onto that the 60,480 meals assembled at yesterday's event and the total meals donated to Second Harvest of the Big Bend is 63,107 meals (a new record!). In addition, $2,500 was donated to Second Harvest of the Big Bend.

2017 Event

A FULL SUMMER 2017 set a record this year! 61,560 meals prepared by 250+ volunteers in under 2 hours. We also were able to donate $2,000 to Second Harvest. We are grateful to the volunteers, donors, Second Harvest of the Big Bend, Godby High School/Leon County Schools and presenting sponsors First Baptist Church and St. John's Episcopal Church. Thanks to each of you, thousands of school children and their families will have A FULL SUMMER!

2016 Event

In addition to packing almost 60,000 meals, our generous FULL SUMMER volunteers and donors made financial contributions to help further meet the needs of food-insecure children and families in our community. AFS dnated $6,000 to Second Harvest this year. Thanks to each of you for caring about your neighbors!

2013-2015 Events

Our first food packaging event in 2013 resulted in an impressive 40,000 meals assembled and donated to Second Harvest of the Big Bend to feed local children during the summer months. In 2014, that number jumped to 50,000 meals, and in 2015 we assembled 60,000 meals. In addition to meals assembled, A FULL SUMMER donated $4,069 in 2013, $3,159 in 2014, and $1,000 in 2015.
